Art by Harry Diaz

The woodblock, risograph, and photography work of versatile designer Harry Diaz

Who are you?

I’m Harry Diaz, I work as a graphic designer and illustrator in Los Angeles, born in Guatemala. I’ve also been spending a lot of time in the print studio, mainly working in relief.

What are you working on?

Over the past month, I’ve been working on a woodcut printed book. I’ve been documenting the process on Dribbble and IG. I’m hoping to have this book finished in the near future, and it will also be available online.

Choose a favorite shot of yours. Why is it a favorite?

I’ve been working collaboratively with an artist and educator Rob Brown on a series of risographs for a printed book, and this is the most recent piece for publication. It’s a two-color risograph book with drawings and photographs used as textural elements.

Tell us about your setup. What tools did you use to create the shot (e.g. hardware, software, pens, paper, blowtorch)?

Rob and I are avid photographers. We used a Ricoh Gr2 for the background images. The drawings are all pen and paper. The book was printed on a Risograph Duplicator in Grey and Gold inks.

Dark Horse

by Damian King

A personal project creating a beer brand. Planning on doing some can design after I choose a direction. Would love to get some feedback on the two horse head directions. Last page is the start of broadening the brand.

I’ve been super impressed with Damien’s recent work. His work seems to travel pretty fluidly across typography, design, and illustration, which is something I’m always striving for in my own work.
