Who are you?

Hi! I’m Katarina, originally from Sweden but for the past year I’ve been living and working as a freelance designer in Lisbon and now Amsterdam. Before freelancing I worked a couple of years at a digital ad agency in Stockholm. I studied graphic design and had my internship there. My main focus now is branding and web design and my clients are often in the sports or food & drinks sector.

What are you working on?

The school foundation I’m working with recently had their identity updated, so I’m helping them with branding and new brochures for the schools. I’m also working on a personal project, each week I design a poster based on a featured word from an online dictionary.

Just a couple of weeks after I created my Dribbble account, Instagram giants Cats of Instagram found me and asked if I wanted to create a design for their first pop-up store (for t-shirts and tote bags). They were my first freelance client and I had so much fun making it. The response on Instagram and at the pop-up store was overwhelmingly positive and I’m still very happy with the design.

Tell us about your setup. What tools did you use to create the shot (e.g. hardware, software, pens, paper, blowtorch)?

Since I travel and move around, I don’t have a permanent workspace. I work on my 13-inch Retina MacBook Pro at home, in cafés or in hotels. One of my favourites in Amsterdam is the stylish The Student Hotel, pictured above. I try to use a mouse but I often end up in the couch designing on the trackpad.

When I do illustrations, I usually sketch on paper, take a photo and trace it in Illustrator. Most of my work is created in Photoshop, Illustrator or InDesign. In the future I’d love to have an office where I can have a small photo studio.

One of my favourite illustrators is Marylou Faure, I love her style and bold use of colors.
