Timeout: Tyler Blake Littwin

Who are you?

My name is Tyler Blake Littwin. I’m a graphic designer living in beautiful Burlington, VT whilst working for a software company called HubSpot (based in Cambridge, MA). Been there for 3+ years in a variety of roles. I also kick out some freelance jams as time allows. When not designing, I participate in such activities as hanging with my fam (wife & son), frequenting the copious local breweries, making some musics (recovering indie band fella’), and supporting Liverpool FC. I love New England and all it embodies.

What are you working on?

Odd mix of stuff these days: collaborating on a new illustration style and some fun office murals for HubSpot. Band t-shirts, wedding invites, a logo for a talented photographer friend. Oh, and some super early sketching for a graphic novel/series I’ve been scheming on for some time.

Unfortunately, my current fav is this juvenile bit of sloganeering. I like the design but the message is what carries it for me. I think sometimes graphic designers get disconnected from the more arty side of things. Design solves problems and is practical. Art can take a stand. Art can challenge. Art can have a fart joke. I’m all for folks poking some bears and throwing some stones.

Tell us about your setup. What tools did you use to create the shot (e.g. hardware, software, pens, paper, blowtorch)?

I work remotely and split my time between being at home and biking in to a great shared office space downtown. Regardless of where I am, I start with thumbnail sketches and a few inked efforts before going digital. I spend 90% of my time in Illustrator. Also, still learning to make the most of the Wacom tablet I bought.

Dead Rabbits - Block Print

Dead Rabbits is an original hand carved, hand printed block print. Like "The Hands that Built America" print, I'm going back to early Americana. Celebrating the immigrants that helped build America, The Dead Rabbits were a New York based organization in...

I saw Derrick Castle at Creative South a few years back and was impressed by his unique work and the dedication to his craft. He’s also just a badass humble cat and someone who seems to genuinely appreciate & love what they do. I chose this shot but all of his stuff is worth checking out. Great mix of classic Americana, tattoo art, and general analog goodness. Big fan.
