July Dribbble Meetup Wrap‑Up

Over 800 of you attended Dribbble Meetups in July—with 11 meetups in 7 countries. Odessa had an epic meetup with over 200 designers and speakers, Orlando Dribbblers hosted an Analog Playoff that benefited the OneOrlando Fund, and Seattle designed and built an OSX application to let attendees build their own custom coffee avatar.

We recently introduce a new Global Meetup Sponsor—UI8. Show them some love and start your Dribbble Meetup. Or get pumped for upcoming meetups in Nashville, Orlando, Ottawa, and Manila City. More info at Dribbble Meetups.

Kyiv, Ukraine @ MEAT Studies

“We had a great Kyiv Dribbble Meetup with almost 200 designers in attendance! Our main aim was to connect designers, giving them a good portion of practice tips, creative fun and a lot of networking. We had four lectures starting with prototyping in Framer and ending with personal designer experience. We also had a lot of creative competitions and enthralling Dribbble debates. Our designer school MEAT Studies was thrilled to be the host for this meetup and we are looking for more. Thanks to all the guests and our sponsors for helping to grow our design community even further.”

“We had about 100 people attend our first Dribbble Meetup at Neon Space Lab as part of the Creative Crawl. Designers from Boulder all the way to Denver made it out for the event. The ‘Design a Trumpée’ contest we ran was great fun with lots of entertaining submissions.”

Newcastle, UK @ Campus North

“The inaugural Newcastle Dribbble Meetup was a huge success. We had four amazing and inspiring talks from four insanely talented designers. Kicking things off was local designer and entrepreneur Naomi Atkinson speaking about the struggles of losing clients and starting her own business. Followed by an awesome look into the life and work of talented sign writer and hand letterer Ashley Willerton. Karl Bell from Wonderstuff Studio gave a thought provoking talk about the value of design. Wrapping things up was illustrator and designer Vic Bell who blew everyone away with her incredibly honest account of her journey into the world design.

We gave away hundreds of beer mats, stickers and buttons, enjoyed beer and pizza and made a few new friends. Huge thanks to Florin Diaconu, Barry McCalvey & Damian Kidd for everything and to all of our sponsors, especially Moltin.”

“Savannah’s Dribbble Meetup was amazing! We had a great crowd and a great time. We had a few games lined up and plenty of PBR to go around. This isn’t the last Dribble Meetup Savannah will have. Huge thanks to our sponsors and Dribbble.”

Montreal, Canada @ Shopify

  1. Meetup Posters

“A little over a hundred designers gathered in the Shopify office for our 7th Dribbble Meetup. People got a chance to chat and grab some food before hearing two great talks from local designers. Christian Poschmann from Metalab talked to us about how prototyping can make us better designers. Elyse Viotto from Shopify, talked about her passion for lettering and how to sustain a creative project for 100 days. To close the night, everyone got to eat some delicious cupcakes with pink icing (of course!) and Elyse was kind enough to give some attendees a quick workshop to help them get started with lettering.”

“In what was our biggest turn up to date, July’s Mexico City Dribbble Meetup was really fun and interesting. Over 30 people showed up to the event hosted at Cardumen, a awesome coworking space. The meetup centered around the hype surrounding Pokémon Go, and an analysis around its UI. Is it a game? Is it an app? Is it something in between? Is the user experience selfish and idealistic for thinking that all countries have people who can walk around with no problems? Is the reason why there are only 142 Pokémon available that the demographic who grew up with just those Pokémon is the one who can spend money AND doesn’t have many financial obligations? (kids, school, etc.)

We we’re also pleased to have Folkensio, a graffiti artist-turned-graphic designer with a passion for video games and retro atmospheres who is part of the brain behind barcade.vg, join us. Folkensio talked about what’s it like being part of the video game movement in Mexico, as well as the challenges of creating visually appealing but bandwith-heavy content. After the session, we had the opportunity to network and have a couple of beers. It was a great meetup and we can’t wait for next month’s event!”

“Our first ever Corvallis Dribbble Meetup was a great success and an amazing experience! Participants from throughout the Willamette Valley came together to talk art and design, participate in product demos, and enjoy a pint (or a few!) of the PNW’s finest microbrews. We’d like to give a huge shoutout to Foundry Coworking and the Madison Ave. Collective for sponsoring and hosting the event. Big thanks also go to Dribbble, Sticker Mule, and Sketch for continually being amazing sponsors. We’re already hard at work planning next year’s event and look forward to seeing even more friendly faces in 2017.”

“In our fourth Dribbble Meetup here at Substantial, we continued our theme of celebrating all things Seattle (this time focusing on coffee) by inviting designers into our space to hang out, connect, and just have fun together. We were thrilled to host about 60 designers this time with custom coffee swag, coffee cakes, and more. We also designed and built an OSX application to let people build their own custom coffee avatar as a fun side experience. We can’t wait to host again for our design community in Seattle, but are on a bit of a hiatus until our new office space is complete. To keep up on our next events, follow us on Twitter at @Substantial.”
