Who are you?

My name is Katie Adcock and I’m a designer living in Richmond, Virginia. I recently moved back to Virginia from Austin, Texas where I lived, worked and ate tacos for a little while after college. I’m now happily designing for a digital creative agency called Known alongside some great, talented people.

What are you working on?

My biggest project currently is a website design for an online technology journal which has been an exciting challenge. I’m always working on various freelance projects on the side as well as illustrations that I make for fun and/or practicing new techniques. New branding and illustration projects always get me excited.

Hawaii at Dusk

by Katie Lazar

Going to Hawaii in less than a weeeeeeek. It's all I can think about.

My favorite shot of mine is Hawaii at Dusk. I drew it right before I went on a big trip to Hawaii in March. Now when I look back at it, it reminds me of all the good times I had on the trip. I also really like the colors and textures I ended up using.

Tell us about your setup. What tools did you use to create the shot (e.g. hardware, software, pens, paper, blowtorch)?

Known’s office space is very bright and airy, right in the middle of the fan in Richmond, VA. It’s great to be able to walk to the little market for kombucha or beer on Friday afternoons. I try to keep my desk fairly organized, stocked with pens, dot and graph paper, colored pencils for sketching layers and my iMac. I really like to start almost every project with pencil, paper and matcha tea. Photoshop and Illustrator are the two programs I use most frequently, but Indesign gets opened every once in awhile as well.

I love this shot from Anastasiia Andriichuk. Animation has always intrigued me, and I’m slowly trying to wrap my head around After Effects. This shot also sticks out to me because I’ve always been into weird/creepy imagery. It reminds me of being a kid with too big of an imagination for my own good.
