Who are you?
Hey, my name is Valentina Badeanu. I live and work in Sibiu, Romania. I’ve graduated Fashion Design and Psycology University, and I have Master’s degree in Psychology.
I’ve explored and developed my skills in different areas such as illustrations, calligraphy, branding, identity for a few years in order to create exquisite ornamental designs.
What are you working on?
Right now I’m working on the branding of a luxury menswear company from London and also I’m in the middle of the process of designing an illustration for my own website.
Choose a favorite shot of yours. Why is it a favorite?
It’s definitely a tough question, but if I were to pick one that best expresses my style I would pick the Absinthe playing cards. It’s one of the most intricate, feminine and classy projects I’ve worked on yet. I was totally absorbed in creating a fairy and delicate “tale.” If you look very carefully, you’ll see lots of fine details and stories that are meant to create a comprehensive and dreamy universe. It was a privilege to be given the opportunity to design the entire box and also other decks which are part of the limited edition Prohibition Cards Deck by Ellusionist.
Tell us about your setup. What tools did you use to create the shot (e.g. hardware, software, pens, paper, blowtorch)?
I work from home, where I have a cozy studio. My setup is pretty standard, including Faber Castell pens, pencils, lots of paper. I do all my digital work on a MacMini connected to a Thunderbolt display. My creative process starts with some rough pencil sketches that I use as conversation started for my clients, and then based on those I do a more accurate pen drawing which I will later on port into Illustrator and do finishing touches in Photoshop.
Choose a favorite shot from another Player. Why do you dig it?
It’s really hard to pick just one because there are many amazing designers, but I’m going to choose this shot by Mike from Creative Mints because all of his work is just so incredibly detailed and well thought through.
