The folks at Qubstudio are hosting the Lviv Dribbble Meetup on January 23 at 10am! They’ve lined up some of the Ukraine’s leading User Interface designers to speak at the event. The meetup is full, but you can find all the info on the Lviv Dribbble Meetup on the Nvite page or get updates on the Qubstudio Facebook page.
In advance of the meetup, we spoke with the folks at Qubstudio about Lviv’s growing design scene.
Tell us what you love about Lviv.
From the first days of Ukraine’s independence Lviv obtained the status of the cultural and spiritual capital of the Ukrainian state.
Today Lviv is more than 750 years old and it has lots of stories to tell you! The city has developed and flourished rapidly being situated on the crossing of two profitable trade routes. It became one of main trade centers of medieval Europe. Afterwards while being a part of different countries, Lviv borrowed some parts of culture and knowledge. Later on it transformed not only to an architectural gem, but also to a modern capital of scientific, spiritual and artistic life.
Lviv is becoming a major European tourist attraction with its fascinating beauty, unique architecture and rich culture. Conducting of more than 100 festivals annually, 60 museums, 100 churches of different confessions, and the big tourist interest in Lviv are the main reasons of such obtainings. In June, 2012 Lviv has been one of the hosting cities of the final draw of Euro 2012. At the same time, both tourists and Lviv natives admire it as a city with the tastiest coffee and chocolate in Ukraine. In 2013, VirtualTourist named Lviv as the number one city among the top 10 must-visit cities in Europe.
Tell us where you work.
We are a Team of devoted professionals that love their job and enjoy working together. Established more than 8 years ago Qubstudio was one of the pioneers of user interaction design in Central and Eastern Europe. Today, with 200+ successful projects in their portfolio and own UX/UI school, it is a recognized thought leader in the industry.
Qubstudio advocates holistic approach to design, starting every project with comprehensive research.
According to Lyubomyr Koval, Founder and CEO:
“Being attractive is simply not enough. A good design must accomplish tasks along the lines of a general business model it is part of. That is why before we start sketching we try to understand clients business in depth, imagine lifestyle of the people who are going to use the product and study the available alternatives. The result must be a design that works.”
At Qubstudio we use to hire giants. And a giant needs room! That is why our designers, engineers and managers have as much space as they need to experiment, learn, grow, play, communicate, create, relax and dream. We believe in self-motivation of smart and creative people. At the same time we know some secret techniques to keep everyone organized and deliver the results in time.
We are growing very fast. In 2015 we moved to a new extremely modern and creative open-space office. We’re constantly improving it in search of the right balance between the stimulating working atmosphere and silent cosy corners to relax and meditate.
Tell us about the Lviv design scene.
Lviv today is a city of opportunities and perspectives open to innovation and creative solutions. Over the past few years, Lviv has emerged as a center of Ukrainian information technologies and became one of the top three IT-cities of Ukraine.
There are a lot of regular meet-ups and events visited by interesting and talented people. IT events, including specific design events are organized during the whole year.
Lviv IT Arena 2015 is the largest IT conference in Ukraine. This year’s three-day conference brought together more than 1,400 participants.
Design industry is growing rapidly in Lviv and requires more professionals, so it is very important to attract more talented specialists. Qubstudio was one of the founders of UX/UI School in Lviv where we can share our theoretical and practical experience between young designers. Nowadays it is a modern educational platform that opens up new possibilities for designers, artists and architects in the IT market.

Enjoying Lviv IT Club members’ cards by Qubstudio, above left.
We like that shot because we are putting together our efforts to develop Lviv IT community - it is our personal contribution to Lviv IT Cluster and IT Club activities. Lviv IT Club card is like a passport of IT worker. We did a concept and graphic design of these cards, made it funny and surprising.
Tesla Android Wear App Climate Control by Eleks Digital, above center.
We are delighted with the Tesla cars and we are pleased that the application to control the car for Android Wear (clock) was created in Lviv by Eleks team. They were asked by Google, some Tesla drivers and lots of other folks to perform something similar with Android Wear.
My Cat Loves Me by BERG, above right.
We love Berg’s style. It seems like he can just animate anything and we would press “L.”
