Who are you? Let us know where you hail from and what you do.
Hey there! I’m Cat Noone and I’m a designer building digital products. I hail from the grassy knolls of Brooklyn, New York — where the grass is a beautiful shade of cement grey. I lived in San Francisco for a while too with green grass and even sand, and then made my way to Berlin in fall of 2013.
At least I had green grass for a little while. When it’s freshly cut, it’s one of my favorite scents.
What are you working on?
I’m currently building my startup, Liberio — a platform for simple eBook creation and publishing right from Google Drive. In my spare time, I work on side projects that I use as a means to improve my design and development skills. The latest have been The Creator Pool (coming soon) and Designer Relationships, which I’m working on with my partner-in-crime, Benedikt.
Choose a favorite shot of yours. Why is it a favorite?
Ah, I actually don’t have a favorite per se, but if I had to pick one that I was most excited to show to the world, it was this one. It’s the illustration of the invitation email for Liberio’s Private Beta. That meant a lot, because it was the opening chapter for Liberio. I was so stoked for everyone to see it and hoped they’d be just as excited to receive it.
Tell us about your setup. What tools did you use to create the shot (e.g. hardware, software, pens, paper, blowtorch)?
This photo was taken with an iPhone 5S and has a VSCO cam filter on it. As you can see, my setup is pretty much my living room and laptop. I used to think you had to have this beefed and intense setup (laughs). I had a huge desk with a Thunderbolt display, 15” Retina Macbook Pro, iPad, etc. on my desk but moving forced me to minimalize; which turned out to be the best for me mentally. Now, I have no external display and a 13” Macbook Air — which you can barely see on the wooden table (plus my iPhone 5S and Retina iPad Mini). I love hanging out in the living room with the sun beaming in. It’s quiet and peaceful, which is perfect for working.
Choose a favorite shot from another Player. Why do you dig it?
IF I had to choose, which I hate doing, because there are so many killer pieces on there, I’d say this gem from Ryan Putnam. The level of detail in the buildings and great color scheme show the intense thought that went into the illustration. He left nothing out and it’s beautiful. Honestly, it reminds me of city life in Brooklyn, which is home, so I really dig it — I’d love and would totally buy a printed version of it. Hint, Hint, Ryan?
