Timeouts are lightning-quick interviews, five questions to help you get to know the players holding court at Dribbble. Thanks to Marie for being today’s interviewee.
Who are you? Let us know where you hail from and what you do.
My name is Marie Bergeron and I am a designer/illustrator based in the beautiful city of Montreal. Completed my bachelor degree in graphic design almost two years ago and started as a freelancer as soon as I got out. I soon received requests, contracts and invites for galleries mostly in Los Angeles and New York. My personal work usually stands for movies and popular culture.
What are you working on?
Right now, there is of course some stuff that I can’t talk about yet. Other than that, I am currently working on five new portraits that will be use in a French Canadian magazine for “Le théâtre d’aujourd’hui.” Between these, got a commission to do on Daft Punk for a fan and a few drawings that I need to get started for some shows coming up every month or so.
Choose a favorite shot of yours. Why is it a favorite?
Uhm … I think I have to go with Vader. This drawing brought me so much love from anywhere it got posted so I can’t thank enough people for it, it brought much joy that’s for sure. And it’s been very interesting to work on Mr. Vader here.
Tell us about your setup. What tools did you use to create the shot (e.g. hardware, software, pens, paper, blowtorch)?
I work from home so I have my own office space. I’m not a good traditional artist (which I hope I’ll change one day) so I always have been working and playing around in Photoshop from a young age. Started with the mouse, got into a tablet then a Cintiq. I now own a 24hd Cintiq and my 27” iMac. It’s a blessing. For the software, 98 percent of the time it’s in Photoshop. The other 2 percent is in Illustrator. I think on paper, but I sketch in Photoshop.
Choose a favorite shot from another Player. Why do you dig it?
Oh my, there is so much awesome stuff on Dribbble. But if I have to stick to one shot, strangely I’ll go toward typography. Probably because I deeply suck at it and these inspire me much. I chose Two Left Lettering Co by Adam Trageser. I think it is a perfect mix of type and illustration. Very efficient design, great logo.
