The Silent Towns

The Silent Towns is another great story of Martian Chronicles. Walter Gripp spends most of his time alone working as a miner in a remote location. One day he goes to the town and discovers that ALL. PEOPLE. EVERYONE. evacuated back to Earth.

He entertains himself by playing different roles, stuffing his jeans with money, watching movies at a theater. When he becomes tired of "a quiet look of loneliness", a phone rings inside one of the empty houses. "Someone should answer that phone."...

If this story was a playlist, its title would be Silent. Empty. Lonely. But then why I chose the yellow color for the background? The story has an ironic spin. I've already mentioned the old TV show based on Bradbury's stories. You can find it on Youtube, The Silent Towns episode is hilarious.
