09 | Kali Uchis — Isolation

King Kali. This is another album that since it was announced, I knew that I could have high expectations of the proposal without any risk. I got to know Kali's music right when she released her mixtape Por Vida, and from the first moment, I fell in love with her musical style and the concept that was behind her as an artist. I’ve always admired how Kali has paved her Latin roots and how this has strongly influenced her sound and personality when it comes to performing. In addition, I think that collaborating with geniuses like Tyler, The Creator and Steve Lacey in the past, made her sound evolve even more and projected her sound in new directions; and it’s something that can be perceived constantly with Isolation. Although what predominates the most in the album is R&B/neosoul, the Latin influence is present through compositions with touches of reggaeton, hip hop and funk. An interesting mix of influences that leaves that delicately exotic taste in the auditory palate of which I am sure, anyone can fall in love easily.
