Her Story:

This is a modern interpretation of ancient Grecian, Sappho. There is a massive gap in history surrounding same sex relationships but one that is mildly accounted for and highly debated is from Sappho.

Throughout ancient Greece, homosexuality was widely accepted. However, there were limitations to its acceptance. It was restricted to men, specifically older elite men with a younger subordinate. When examining female homosexuality much like all female sexuality one’s findings become quite narrow. Lesbianism in ancient Greek society was misunderstood and largely unaccounted for.

This piece is an ode to the LGBTQI+ community. This signifies strength in unity, an undivided look at love shared between people who defy the judgments, boundaries and other limitations cast upon them. In today's society, we push further and further to celebrate the rights and acknowledgement of unions that should be afforded and celebrated for all genders and spectrums and this is my way of expressing solidarity through art.
