Grey Scan is the world’s first compact inorganic explosive trace detector
GreyScan offers the next generation in high sensitivity, field-able explosive trace detection for inorganic explosives. Inorganic compounds are being increasingly used to fabricate home-made explosive devices, due to ease of their acquisition and lack of availability of military explosives.
GreyScan is simple to operate, utilizes industry-standard sample traps, and can be operated with minimal training by first responders and security personnel.
Two Bulls was asked to redesign UX and UI screens for this detector, I've decided to use the dark tones. I used headers to be condensed in capital letters. And I was also looking to find some bright colours that work well on the dark background. I also wanted to use the gradient effects as it can add depth, dimension, and movements to design elements.
We created a style guide including
- Typography
- Colour scheme
- Icons
- Mockups
- Prototype
Typography
For the headers, We choose the condensed letter in Capital letters. We’ve chosen a font called Exo. What we’re aiming for was a sense of feeling of bold, unconventional feeling but on the other hand, because this typography is slightly roundish so it’ll give you a sense of safety. On the other practical side of things, you notice we’re using google fonts. Google fonts are used to ensure stability and avoid licensing issues.
Colours
We’ve chosen blue as a primary colour.
What we sense in blue is a sense of safety. These colours are selected to make the branding more engaging. We’re looking for vibrant and almost neon colours to convey intelligence, trust, and stability. These colours also contrast well with a dark background.
Background gradients will be used to make the brands' colours more dynamic. Gradient subconsciously leads users toward the focal point and infuses a bit of life into design elements.
Icons
For the icons, we’ve decided to use the outline icon collection which is a collection of simple icons. These icons emphasis on simplicity, consistency, and readability.
Prototype
We create a prototype to get tangible early, As we offer and business start to take shape, we can quickly learn what is and isn’t working, and also frame a question, build a prototype and collect evidence.
Challenge
During the ideation phase of the project, we realised that we had to develop a feasible design solution for the project. We had to ask ourselves if this solution could be managed by the existing GreyScan team responsible for keeping their solutions alive long after we’d wrapped up our side of the work.
