OOFTA, UUFDA, OOFDA! It’s an upper Midwestern expression of surprise, exhaustion, or dismay (and there’s some debate about how it’s spelled). Versatile, fun to say, and friendly enough to be said in public, “oofta” has become a regular part of my vocabulary.
