Dr.No Illustration

I watched Dr.No last week. Not my favorite Bond movie, but one of my fav Bond performances. It’s not easy to translate a character like James Bond from the written word to the screen. Ian Fleming insisted that audiences shouldn’t like Bond at first, but find themselves attracted to him and wanting to know more about him. I think a lot of the success of Dr.No and the franchise as a whole is due to Connery’s performance. The scene where he shoots an unarmed man in cold blood before quipping “That’s a Smith & Wesson, and you’ve had your six” is one of the defining moments in the franchise and set Bond apart from every other movie hero on the silver screen.
