I experimented with placing abstract deforming objects into 3D space. It turned out that it's a bit challenging to recognize these kinds of forms as 3D objects without light reflections and shadows (but it is easy when object forms are static — look at the next example). When a form is violated (by continuos deformation over time), it's not able to convey its spacial references anymore. In this case, your brain can rely on the light only and all its side effects relative to an object.
