Venus figurines or Cycladic idols?
A few weeks ago a friend of mine showed me a decorative item on a huge clothing & home accessories retailer’s website. Initally I thought it looked as if it was inspired by Brancuși but then I realised that his work also reminds me of something else: Cycladic figurines, which of course can’t really be mentioned without their predecessors, Venus figurines. So there it is, a clear example of history repeating itself. Modern artists found inspiration in thousand year old statues and it seems to be happening again in the digital illustration world.
