Mark Thomas Miller - Minimal Personal Blog

Towards the end of 2019, I wrote a simple theme for my personal blog, zeph.co. Although I've recently made some changes, I still loved the minimalism of this version and wanted to share.

It was set in system fonts (San Francisco on Mac – one of my absolute favorites). Code was set in monospaced system fonts (SF Mono on Mac). This meant that the page was extremely lightweight and loaded quickly on any connection.

It automatically switched to a dark theme at night, which only took a few lines of JavaScript. This turned the background to pure black (#000). On AMOLED devices, pure black makes the majority of your phone's screen turn off, so it looks like the letters are floating on a glass slab. The site and your phone blend seamlessly together for a really cool effect. For anyone who's interested in the JavaScript involved in this: zeph.co/dark-theme-at-night

Anyway, hope you enjoy!
