The Archives of the United Arab Matrimony

The Archives of the United Arab Matrimony was co-designed with Lana Kurdi. A research-based project that was developed in "Mapping Citizenship," a collaborative course between the Anthropology and the Graphic Design departments at the American University in Cairo, co-designed and co-taught by: Ghalia Elsrakbi and Yasmine Motaz. This project aims to shed a light on the romantic aspect of the Pan Arabism or the “Arab dream” promoted by Gamal Abdel Nasser and the Ba’ath Socialist Party, and to highlight how their socialist policies played a major role in serving their personal gain. The union between Egypt & Syria has been portrayed by the media and national narrative as an exceptional love relationship. Thus, we re-narrated the events of the United Arab Republic in the context of a matrimonial relationship. Anthropology Student: Nada Armanios.
