Rock Tower Study

Material study done for painting practice - and a concerted effort to make a stack of bricks look as overly-dramatic as possible. For this study, I started out by sketching the basic forms of the rocks, before outlining the areas of erosion. Next, a base paint layer was added to block out local colours. I built up the brick texture in increasing opacity, before adding lighting and shadows to give more depth. I polished by adding rock erosion and weathering details, in addition to painting a foreground and background to build the scene.
