Lovebirds Illustration

These two lovebirds perched on a branch were illustrated in celebration of Valentine's Day. I began with a sketch of the birds, in their nestled perch on the branch. With clean linework, the details of the feathers' fold patterns, were added. I then reduced the opacity of the linework and began to add a base paint layer to block-out the transitional tones from yellow, to orange and to green. I blended the rich red, orange and yellow colours on both heads, before moving to the yellow-green and blue-green feathers on the body. For the branch, I blocked-out desaturated, blue, yellow and red tones for the highlights and shadows. I blurred a darker teal background to add atmosphere and polished up by adding the final lighting touches to the edges of the feathers.
