North Pole Punk Fest - Mock the Halls 2019
Some of you may be surprised to learn the elves are not quite the cute and cheerful creatures we see portrayed in movies and television. In fact, between the high-pressure demands of meeting toy quotas and a diet consisting of sugary gruel, Santa's helpers are perpetually on the cusp of revolt. So what keeps these over-worked elves sane you ask? The North Pole Punk Fest of course. Their annual opportunity to let out all that pent-up aggression in a frenzied night of abrasive music and the most adorable mosh-pits you've ever seen.
I've always been inspired by show posters for touring and local punk, hardcore, and metal shows past and present. This was my first attempt at fusing the rough aesthetics of punk and hardcore with the inviting traditionalism of Christmas visuals all within the backdrop of modern web design. I am pleased with the results, and felt so inspired by this project I even prepared a playlist of the kind of bands I would love to hear at festival like this...were all of these bands comprised of angry elves with a penchant for punny names.
A big thank you to Jerry Guzman and Vincent Courtoy for allowing me to use your spectacular photography for this project!
