Persona
The key to a useful persona is that it’s based on actual customers and not assumptions. Speak with your client's customers first and develop personas based on your findings. This way you're designing for real people as opposed to a hunch, guess or presumption.
Here is one of the personas we delivered to Solspace for a site redesign we're working on. After interviewing Solspace customers we identified 5 common personas and used actual pain points, quotes and other findings in the personas. These docs give the team something to look back on as we progress through the project.
