Hocico Y Bolitas – Polarface Play: December 2019

For this artwork, I was given no brief apart from using reds and greens to "make it Christmassy". I did exactly that, using the extreme contrasts of the complementary colours in combination with harsh texturing that alludes to uncomfortable, bright lights. I wanted to create an image that makes the viewer feel like they've stumbled upon something that they shouldn't have seen; a slimy, genetic mutation. The Grinch gone wrong.

I created the illustration on Procreate, using the pencils to build up textures. I then composed the elements in Photoshop, using a textured background (which is actually a manipulated photo of a pomegranate) to create depth.
