Product Redesign - Pão Integral
Though it was a small change for a very limited object of redesign, it is interesting to mention the thinking behind the changes. Users who buy this brand of whole wheat bread are usually in a hurry due to the context: the product whose label has been redesigned is in a small store with many different kinds of bread brands, and since it is a small place, most clients are in a hurry to find what they want. What they want, then, is to find the product as quickly as possible, so the idea is to remove obstacles from the design layout in order to offer easier visual navigation (a good example of this is the use of proper contrast, especially for visually impaired users). This helps clients read the content easily, which is also direclty related to typography, as it affects the way users perceive the message that is being delivered, enhancing accessibility and, while aesthetics are important, cluttered, purposeless design usually ends with users rejecting the product, with the original label suffering from this problem: not a lot of text, but not troublesome distribution, as the principle of proximity wasn't followed. Typefaces used were ArmWrestler (Bold) for the name "Pão Integral" (Whole Wheat Bread) and Zilla Slab for the smallest. The typeface used for the brand's logo - Vitória - is Museo Slab (900). Working with two or the typefaces also helps ensure consistency.
Smooth navigation only happens through good design, and visual hierarchy had to be adjusted. When it comes to content presentation, the priority was given to the words "Pão Integral", as this is the information most users seek during their visit to the store, followed by the smaller details, such as how the bread was made, its lack of trans fat, its handmade aspect, and weight. The color palette also went through some modifications, with yellow being used to offer better contrast in front of the sliced bread, brown to enhance visual navigation, and white for most of the text.
