Yakult is a sweetened probiotic milk beverage fermented with the bacteria strain Lactobacillus paracasei Shirota, first isolated from the human intestine by Japanese scientist Minoru Shirota in 1935. It is sold by Yakult Honsha, based in Tokyo.
