A map of biodiversity hotspots in the Americas

Biodiversity hotspots are biologically diverse yet threatened terrestrial areas. They are characterized by two things:

1. they must contain more than 1,500 endemic species of vascular plants

2. they has lost at least 70% of their primary native vegetation
