Londrina | Red Soil

The strong red colouration of the soil is iconic in the northern part of Paraná state, an extremely fertile soil result from millions of years of basaltic rocks decomposition. This is where the Londrinians nick name Pé Vermelho (Red Foot) comes from, and interesting enough, the name used for the soil in Portuguese is Terra Roxa (Purple Soil) was a result from a pour "translation" of Terra Rossa (Red Soil) that the Italian immigrants used when referring to the colour.
