Into the Blue - Landing Page Redesign
About
Into the Blue is an exclusive after-party event for Dreamforce attendees hosted by Sercante and Pardot. A landing page was created using Splash That without any design direction. It was difficult to digest, didn't look great on mobile, and the message was not very clear. (The last image is the original design).
Process
Before I was able to dive into the landing page redesign, I needed to make sure we had a solid vision for all the assets we are creating for this event. I created a quick style guide that was inspired by an image of disco balls that were reminiscent of jellyfish floating through the ocean which was used on the original page. This was a great way to incorporate an element from the initial design. (https://unsplash.com/photos/249DzAuJTqQ)
Next, I thought through all of the information that needed to be on the page as well as who would be interacting with it, when, and how. While this page is intended to collect registrations, I thought about how someone might use it leading up to the event or on their way to the event. This helped me to form a sense hierarchy, to remove unnecessary information, and to add value in other areas.
Because we were committed to using Splash That, I had to find a theme that was clean and had modules that would fit our needs. I wanted to keep things simple and streamlined, but also give the page a custom look.
The process of building out the page was surprisingly time-consuming. I was able to think of interesting ways to utilize elements to incorporate all of the information in a cleaner way, but probably would have done things differently if I would building out this page using HTML/CSS.
Conclusion
Templates are great tools, but can still be very difficult to work with. Templates can force us to make decisions that may not align with our overall intent or message. As a designer, I still had to put a lot of thought into the overall hierarchy, message, and style.
