Dad

The Fauvism movement was a major source of inspiration for this portrait of my father. My goal was to express an intense state of mind using bold, complementary colors as an element of the painting itself. I wanted to underscore that intensity by blocking out the eyes and parts of the painting with white using the impasto method for contrast against the smooth background. The ear is the only feature painted to look realistic, and together with the tear from the covered eye convey a lesson my dad taught me: be a good listener.
