The Banshee Cries at Wicklow Gaol

Firstly, it goes without saying that this is such a great idea, so thank you Elegant Seagulls. Ive really enjoyed the challenge!

As this is my first Mocktober I decided to do something based on where I’m from, that is, Ireland. It is believed that Halloween originated here and that on October 31st the boundary between our world and the world of the dead dissolved and that spirits could easily cross over. With this in mind, I took one of the more well known Irish spirits, the banshee and combined her with a more modern Irish historical figure. The notorious female Irish rebel, Nan Hogan.

At the turn of the 20th century, a lot of these Irish rebels, ended up in jails around the country and were kept captive for years and in some cases, until their premature death. The jails (or gaols as they were known in Ireland back then) still exist as historical buildings. People swear on Halloween night you can still hear the cries of the prisoners emanating from the walls.

"The banshee cries" is a design for a website promoting a halloween night tour at the infamous Wicklow Jail. Hope you like it!
