2016 vs 2019
Three years after our first redesign, and 12 months after rebranding our company, we needed to modernize the look and feel of the Noonlight app.
For the first screen, we kept things simple, light and inviting, but more importantly, usable. This meant maintaining the same hit target and distance from the bottom of the screen, allowing users to easily reach and hold the button for long periods of time. We also moved away from the sharp edges of the shield to a circle, softening the shape, and allowing for a more soothing animation when pressed.
The biggest risk with this redesign (and one we’re still paying close attention to with our engagement metrics) is the overall brightness of the screen and its impact on nighttime users. You guessed it... dark mode, anyone? 🌚
