Tricky Quantity Problem

I don't think this is working terribly well, but I'm trying to come up with a generic widget for increasing/decreasing quantities with a way to add your own max (aka, I only have 6 bananas... so max would contribute 6). Our current system just hyperlinks the number 6, which doesn't work that well either. Advice? Rebounds? Seen this done well somewhere?
