Summer Survival Kit
This project presents the question of telling a given narrative (Summer Survival Kit for Recession Casualties and Inflation Victims —New York magazine) through parts, distributed over time and space. I chose to approach the text by distilling it to its fundamental message about growth through compassion. This app transforms the reading experience into a game, pulling the narrative out of its dated context and into one that is new, fun, and relatable. Users receive daily articles and thus gradually build upon their knowledge about surviving a recession over time. In this alternative reading experience, the user is able to improve her character’s wellbeing by sharing readings with others: allowing fellow app users to become closer through their interactions and essentially putting the original article’s moral into practice.
