Inktober (Animation) Day 1 - Ring

Inktober day 1! Instead of drawing this year, I decided to do mini animations in after effects based on the daily theme in order to practice and improve my after effects skills. The first one is a "ring" from Sonic the Hedgehog.

This was made without any 3D objects, and instead uses two rounded rectangles that squash and stretch, an alpha track matte for the center of the ring, and a shifting gradient to provide a sense of depth and rotation.
