Weedheads.
☘️ I am a bit late with the poster for August, but here it is. Recently I found a big old box of Legos at my friend's place. Somewhere at the bottom was a Lego figure with leaves instead of a head. It immediately reminded me of a Frank Ocean skit: "Be Yourself" from the album Blonde. It is a voice message from one of Frank's friends' mother. She talks about being yourself and trusting your own beliefs. At the same time, the voicemail is ironic when she tells him not to drink alcohol and use marijuana. She wants him to act in a way that is consistent with society. Here we see a paradox of telling someone to be themselves and yet ordering them to conform.
I was playing around with the shapes, Fibonacci's grid and typography to illustrate the message. I wanted to portray the weedhead/pothead persona - which has very a negative tone - in a playful and satirical way. At same time the poster leaves room for the viewer's own interpretation of the message.
