Dr. Livingston, I Presume
When I jumped back into illustration a few years ago, I sort of discovered my style by being a Garfield artist, which is...not a "real thing," per se, but basically just means I used Garfield as a source of inspiration to make new work. Doing so allowed me to experiment a lot with composition and different media while still using recognizable graphic elements to tie it all together. So now, whenever I hit a block on personal projects, I like to crack open an old Garfield book, find a random strip and take a stab at interpreting it into something new. This particular illustration was inspired by the strip from August 29, 1982.
