Google Doodle - Iemanjá

Iemnajá is the goddess of the sea, represents the energy of water and is associated with fertility and progress. It belongs to the Afroumbandist religion and was introduced to the culture through slaves from Africa. In Uruguay, Iemnjá Day is celebrated every February 2 on all the beaches of the coast, with Ramírez beach being the most popular, bringing together lots of visitors.
During the celebration, the faithful and also other people gather on the beaches or coasts and make offerings and gifts of different types. Offerings arrive through paper or cardboard boats.
