The red thin line is the line of humanity during the war, which should never be interrupted.

The title of this book refers to the Crimean war 1853-1856, when 93rd Sutherland Highlanders Regiment of Foot. the Scots, lined up in three ranks, stopped the shaft of the Russian cavalry under the Balaclava with rifle fire, it showed the unbrokenness. But in the book, this title plays out another situation where humanity should not be interrupted by the brutality of war.
