The Art of Recurrence — Dorothy

"Toto, I've a feeling we're not in Kansas anymore."
—Dorothy, The Wizard of Oz

This 30" x 40" editorial print project spotlights how a catchphrase catches fire and becomes repeated—and distorted—in other media. Stills were captured from these media at the moment the lines were spoken. The background color of each print represents the original film (Dorothy's yellow brick road), and a courier font reflects movie scripts. Vectored images of the speakers draw in the viewer and beg closer attention: attention which then reveals how the iconic phrase is artfully, and powerfully reinforced by repetition and the larger-than-life status of the original.
