Sketch It To Death
Recently someone challenged me with the idea “sketch it to death”. Their argument was most concepts have merit, however, we as creatives tend to move on to the next idea before we’ve explored a concept fully.
Over the last couple of weeks, I’ve started going through my old sketchbooks and choose an idea that never made it off the page. I’ll spend about thirty minutes riffing on that idea and more often than not it leads me to something unexpected or it helps me find a solution to a current design I’m working on. It’s been a fun exercise, but what I have found most valuable is a noticeable shift in my discernment of concepts.
So I’m passing this challenge along to my fellow designers, spend a little more time exploring an idea and “sketch it to death”! Keep the concept alive and you may just be surprised with where it leads you!
