Saska & Taska at Blacksmith Coffee Houston, TX

David Buehrer of Greenway Coffee and Tea and Blacksmith Coffee shop in Houston, TX commissioned me to create a small mural on the shop's craft paper roll. The paper roll hangs behind the espresso bar and register. I painted the piece using Holbein Acryla Gouache, the painting is 25" x 25." The goal is to switch out the artist and painting each quarter. Once take down the piece will be framed and taken to other shops or office space. I designed the original piece in Adobe Illustrator so I could create giveaway pieces at the shop. In terms of the design, the characters are part of my "Kawaii, Harajuku and Goth Lolita" series, a common theme in this series is the positive and sweet relationships between a human and animal best friend. Saska is friends with an adorable Squirrel Monkey and they are showing everyone the red coffee berries, roasted beans, coffee flowers and a coffee leaf in the latte art. David travels around the globe to buy coffee, so I chose to create characters from his trip to Costa Rica.
