Amelia Earhart

Amelia Earhart (1897~1937). She became the first woman in history to fly solo across the Atlantic Ocean in 1928, and the first person ever to fly solo from Hawaii to the U.S. mainland. During a flight to circumnavigate the globe, she disappeared somewhere over the Pacific Ocean in July 1937. Her plane wreckage was never found, and she was officially declared lost at sea. In a letter written to her husband, written in case a dangerous flight proved to be her last, her brave spirit was clear. “Please know I am quite aware of the hazards,” she wrote. “I want to do it because I want to do it. Women must try to do things as men have tried. When they fail, their failure must be a challenge to others.” Her disappearance remains one of the greatest unsolved mysteries of the twentieth century.
