PHX Film Collective logo

PHX Film Collective is an educational community film group that I started in 2018. Our ultimate goal is to operate a nonprofit indie movie theatre in Central Phoenix.

Although we project our films digitally at the moment, our goal is show actual 35mm and 70mm films, so it was important that the logo reflect the history and nostalgia of cinema. The typography is a custom creation. I wanted to stay away from the cliched image of a film strip, but the geometric type suggests film, with a circle in the P to represent a reel, the vertical strokes representing a film strip and the separated squares evoking sprocket holes.

The overall impression is simultaneously classic and modern, which represents the kind of films that we program.
