Right This Minute Logo
I was the art director of the syndicated TV show Right This Minute from 2012-1018. In 2014 I was able to lead the show through a rebranding, which included a complete redesign of the graphics package and logo.
The challenge was to create something that invited the viewer to interact with with the brand. Right This Minute features the newest viral videos from all over the world, including those submitted by viewers. The play button had been part of the sub-branding and tag line in previous seasons but I decided to make it a focal point of the new brand. The play button became the show’s mascot, and we often separated it from the word mark and let it have a life of its own. It functioned as a simplified social media icon and a short hand signifier for the whole brand.
Designing a branding system for video is a challenge, as it often needs to work on a busy background or reduced to a small part of the screen. The circle in the background was included so that the typography could always be read against various video backgrounds. It also helps to give the logo a fun, bouncy quality that lends itself well to animation.
