Headlines UI/UX iOS & Android Native App

Headlines was born out of a hackaton over Lunar New Year 2016. The idea was to provide a way to be informed of news events without clutter or distraction. Using Thomson Reuters’ Open Calais API, Headlines scans verified news media accounts on Twitter for tweets on current events. It then ranks, collates present tweets on the same event as one single event citing multiple sources.

From a design point of view, Headlines was an exercise in native design and minimalism. We kept the user interface calm and professional by using grey tones, and using a dark shade of amaranth red as highlight color. To improve usability and ease of use, we kept the app to 2 pages only, guiding the user from macro information to micro information. Besides placeholders and logos, there was no need for other in app icons. To prevent the logos from "busying" the UI/UX, we color treated them grey.
