Rio Corruption

On August 15, 2016, in the middle of the Games, the head of the European Olympic Committees, the Irishman Patrick Hickey, is arrested in his Rio hotel. At 71, when the Brazilian police knocked on his door, he slipped his Olympic badge under the door and tried to flee through the adjacent room.

Patrick Hickey is suspected of having been involved in an illegal ticket resale system for the Games, which would have generated a total of around 2.8 million euros.
