Culturally Connected Style Explorations
One of the challenges we faced with Culturally Connected was figuring out an illustration style that wasn't limiting the scope of application of the approach.
As soon as we presented our first Sketch with character drawings, we faced the next challenge.
The client explained that it's not a good idea to use specific characters or situations. That’s because the concepts and practices described in Culturally Connected have a very broad application—healthcare occurs in many different settings.
We don’t want to limit the way that people see healthcare.
We didn’t want to have illustrations of characters of any particular profession, gender or ethnicity. Even drawing some settings like a hospital or doctor’s office might be limiting. Our goal was to help users understand the general idea of Culturally Connected—and apply it to their own contexts.
We had to go in a different direction and find other more abstract metaphors.
