DOT – Tickets
An interesting challenge we faced was to create a system for the design of the tickets, that supported all of the ticket types. And in a way that would be logical for users, personnel and made sense for our developers.
An interesting part of this system was the way we battle fraud. Like a physical ticket, or a money bill, we introduced several security features to prevent fraud.
1) A live countdown of the validity of the ticket, to battle screenshots.
2) Hiding the QR code behind a swipe so the user would have to interact with the app.
3) Showing an icon if the ticket has been purchased within the last 2 minutes.
4) Showing an icon if the phone is in flight mode and cannot connect to the server to validate the ticket.
5) A visual element that reacts to the gyroscope of the phone, like the holographic parts of a money bill.
These all serve their specific purpose, and are needed in the different control scenarios that happen across bus', train's and metro's.
