The author of the book is Shawn McConnell and he was wonderful to work with.

The story is about Alexi, who after fourteen years must leave his home in New Archangel, capital city of Russian Alaska. Forced by his father to continue his education, he is bound for the Russian Naval Academy in St. Petersburg. Alexi is torn between his desire to stay in the only home he has ever known and the adventure of seeing the Russia his father has always spoken of.
